HBA tryout information 2024

Tryouts for the 2024-25 season of HBA travel basketball are scheduled to take place on Sept. 15 and Sept. 18.

Please read all of this information carefully.

First off, check our About Us page for information about the HBA program and policies so you understand the organization's team selection process and are aware of the commitment required by all players during the season.

Again this year, the HBA will form teams by using a combination of tryout evaluations and last season's coaches' evaluations. Players who are new to the program — including all incoming fourth-graders — will be judged solely on their tryout evaluations. As in the past, coaches' evaluations and tryout scores will not be shared with anyone outside of the board.

The gyms will be closed to parents during the tryouts. You are welcome to watch from a window, but only players and evaluators will be allowed to remain in the gym so that we minimize the distractions.

Below is the schedule for this year's tryouts. Players in Grade 6 are expected to attend BOTH scheduled tryouts. Players should be at their tryouts a minimum of 10 minutes early in order to check in and receive a numbered pinnie.

ALL PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO BE REGISTERED FOR PRIOR TO TRYOUTS.
Click HERE to connect to our LeagueApps registration site and select your child's grade.

When you register, your child will be placed on a wait list and you will

not be charged a fee. At some point after tryouts, by Oct. 1, you will receive

an email informing you whether or not your child made a team. Those who are

selected will then go back into the registration to complete payment.

For those with tryouts at the High School Athletic Center, check the

side entrance if the main entrance is not open. Park in the lot in front of

the high school, then walk down the path that runs between the high school

and middle school, and the door is on the left about two-thirds of the way down.

Once inside, walk down the stairs and go through one of the doors on the right

to enter the gym.

Brown Gym is the main gym at Hopkinton Middle School. Park in the lot by the

water tower and use the entrance there.

Doyle Gym is the lower gym at Hopkinton Middle School. Park in the same lot as you would for Brown Gym, but walk past the lower parking lot around the back of the building, on the side where the fields are. Go around to the part of the building that is closest to the fields, and the gym entrance is there -- facing the fields.

TRYOUT WAIVER REQUEST

If your child has a serious injury or there is another valid reason why they cannot attend a tryout, you may request a waiver. This does not guarantee you will be granted a waiver -- only that the HBA board will consider your situation and determine what would be most fair to everyone. You can access the waiver by clicking here.
